Ours is half the time in the office half the time at home. Just wondering what the state of play is at other companies.

One day a week in office, so people choose to do 2/3. Some ppl don't always manage 1, it's not rigidly enforced as long as you're performing

steelseries · 19/01/2024 07:11

We're still one day in the office, 4/5 from home. I'm moving to another role which is the same but which has more access to office space so I can go in 3 days as I prefer it.

Nevermindtheteacaps · 19/01/2024 07:11

Sorry 'some people choose to do 2/3'

hopeishere · 19/01/2024 07:12

We can do what we want. I gently encourage my team to come in once a week together.

We're a remote office of a bigger organisation where everyone else has to go in twice a week. I don't know how we get away with not having to do it!!

CissOff · 19/01/2024 07:14

We are meant to do 3 days. I generally do 2-3 as I live quite far away. The 3 days aren’t enforced as long as you’re performing and you do actually come in at least twice a week. Lots of people in my team come in 4+ days a week because they enjoy it - if I lived nearer I probably would too. There’s a great atmosphere.

Khdzgg · 19/01/2024 07:17

3 days on the office but people don’t always follow it

BigFatCat2024 · 19/01/2024 07:18

In the office when you want/need to be, at home the rest of the time

5thCommandment · 19/01/2024 07:19

I work for a ftse100 company in a senior director role. We have 24 offices in England. Policy is still flexible (times) and agile (place) working. 37hrs a week but only need to be available 10-3 in what's called "core hours" as very family focused (helps school drop off etc), I am responsible for when I make up my hours.

I'm doing 4 days at home currently. Love it.

I would never work more than 2 days a week in an office now, I'm way more productive in a quiet home setting.

usernotfound0000 · 19/01/2024 07:19

I day for part time, 2 days for full time. Although it isn't the same across all areas (university) and in our area it isn't rigidly enforced at all. We are merging with another department which means we will have fewer available desks per staff members so this is our long term pattern now.

Onyoupop · 19/01/2024 07:19

2 days WFH, 3 days in the office. Used to be 3 WFH and 2 in office but they want everyone in 3 days now ideally. I only live 10 mins away from the office though so no commuting issues etc so I'm fine with it.

Nottodaty · 19/01/2024 07:23

Expected to be in at least 2 days.

A few people moved during Covid and now utilising the local travel lodge, I think they thought it wouldn’t be enforced but as more people are going in, they feel they missing out on important discussions by not being in.

Though we are also expected to be flexible the last 3 weeks I’ve pretty much been in 4 days a week - forgot how knackering the travelling would be!

Yestodessertplease · 19/01/2024 07:25

This year we have been told to go back 1 day in the office PT and at least 2 if you're FT. I have negotiated to WFH in the school hols.

Walker1178 · 19/01/2024 07:34

SME in the creative industry, each department has different rules - Sales team are in once a month for a meeting. Marketing, creative and ops are in once a week. Accounts and IT are full time office based.

Babyenroute · 19/01/2024 07:35

60% in the office and completely enforced - there is a tracking system which management check to see people's stats and who has been in more. Senior management need to be in 5 days (I'm assuming to set the tone from the top as they eventually want as all in 5 days 😕)

Wictc · 19/01/2024 07:36

Depends on people’s role. Some are in every day, some once a month.

Tarantella6 · 19/01/2024 07:41

Office 3 days minimum, but we are manufacturing so there are lots of roles who have to be in every day and as a result lots of other people choose to come in every day as it's easier to find people, get things done etc. Senior team tend to be in every day. Everyone has their own desk, there's no space issues.

SheilaFentiman · 19/01/2024 07:43

About a day a week but it’s not strictly enforced.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 19/01/2024 07:47

1 day per week in the office. It's a day of my choice, so very flexible. I love it. I can choose to do more days in the office if I want to and depending on my diary I sometimes go in 2-3 times per week. But this is totally my choice, there is no pressure to go into the office any more than 1 day per week. I'm very lucky.

pinksheetss · 19/01/2024 07:57

2 from home, 3 in the office. Although being in the office feels redundant sometimes because our team work different days from home so about two of my office days I'm sat in a large empty space by myself.

This past week I have been wfh the entire week though due to the weather

Floofydawg · 19/01/2024 08:12

Same here. I only go on for meetings which have to be f2f, around once a month.

EBearhug · 19/01/2024 08:12

Depends on the department- most are 1-2 days in the office, and you should aim to do the same day for team-building reasons. However, some people were always home-based contacts, and if so, they still are. A couple of colleagues prefer working from the office so come in most days - there aren't enough desks for all people in all departments to do that, but not usually an issue unless there are bigwigs from the USA over.

Sales are often out and about at customer sites. Some technical staff have to be on-site at technical sites. Reception and catering and cleaning and security are in daily.

Our department was always split over different countries, so the chances of getting a full team together even once a year hasn't happened for over a decade, because expense budgets don't allow except for senior staff, and tech means it's not as important - meetings always had videoing in, since well before the pandemic.

Spendonsend · 19/01/2024 08:14

DH has to go in 2 days a week. I have to go in once a week but i am part time.

Do you work for an American bank?

This is the same set up as my work. 60% in over 4 weeks and strictly enforced so works out as 3/5 if you split it weekly. I applied for flex working but got rejected. No one gets it approved.

New2024 · 19/01/2024 08:27

We have been lucky enough to be able to request what we’d like personally. I’ve not heard of any cases across the organisation where a particular request has been refused/modified but there may be some. The exceptions are the public facing enquiry jobs, where wfh would not fit the roles.

Our team is 5 people. 2 of us work in the office all the time as it’s their preference, 2 of us do half and half. The line manager comes into the office once a week. Both she and her DH were shielding during COVID lockdowns and have longstanding health concerns, so I think that’s the driver for what’s essentially a more home based arrangement. It works very well as there’s never any problem getting hold of her if needs be. There’s only one person who moans about wfh arrangements, but if it’s not that he’s got a bee in his bonnet about it’s something else. Also, 2.5 days in the same room as him is enough 😂

BinsinBonson · 19/01/2024 08:27

Have to be in three days a week, but feel pressurised to have a ‘reason’ not to do four or five. I recently moved from another place where we had great flexibility and could choose - I sometimes went in every day, some weeks not at all and never had to explain myself.

I thought I’d be ok with the new regime as I evened out at about 60% in the office at my last place anyway, but actually I find myself resenting the fact I’m not trusted to make that decision myself any more. I find myself getting irritated when colleagues say ‘see you tomorrow!’ and not ‘when are you next in?’ as I was used to. This is becoming a big source of dissatisfaction.

Keeping an eye on where companies are going with this as I will look to move if others remain more flexible. If everyone is heading back to the office, might rethink my career entirely!
