Ours is half the time in the office half the time at home. Just wondering what the state of play is at other companies.

There will be people who will forgo a bonus in favour of not burning up fossil fuel / paying for an expensive commute by train / personal wear and tear.

When you consider that a bonus of say £3,000 is taxed at basic or higher rate ends up being say £2,000 and then calculate the annualised cost of attendance in the office (petrol, car maintenance, childcare arrangements) it ends up being a very marginal benefit that really isn't worth it. Having the extra time back is a perk!

Good point!

Mine is not set. I’ll go in for f2f meetings, so maybe 2/3 days a week. I don’t stick around though and will go home afterwards. I also never go in early now.

I honestly don’t know how I had the energy to go to work 5 days a week, and be in at around 8, before the pandemic!

Traumdeuter · 20/01/2024 09:04

Large multinational engineering company: Very flexible, with an expectation of coming in for regular face to face meetings (once a fortnight) or ad-hoc meetings if it’s requested with a fair amount of notice.

Some people are in every day, some people hardly at all, most 2-3 times a week. Almost everyone wfh on Fridays.

We’re not fully office based so there are days on sites as well.

AgualusasLover · 20/01/2024 09:06

We are professional services. For the fee earners it’s ideally 4 days at client site (and our clients do seem to be about in their offices) and one in the office/home. There is some flex around that depending on the project and case. The average age is very young though so there is a great deal of learning by being around senior people/in meetings.

Back office varies by team, mine is 2 days which are flexible. It’s broadly enforced but not in a particularly harsh way, we are just reminded every so often. I went in 4-5 days last year but am trying for 3 days on average this year. I don’t have a long commute or
the school run anymore and we have pretty amazing offices and I enjoy my colleagues company, but I also don’t only sit with those in my direct team, I collaborate and have relationships with all sorts of people.

Currently three days in the office and two at home. But I'm moving to a new role where I'm more operational and I'll be doing 4 days onsite

AgualusasLover · 20/01/2024 09:07

I will say that I think it’s the choice that counts. I loved being in most of the week last year, but I chose to, if they moved to a model where I had to I would be less happy.

TeenLifeMum · 20/01/2024 09:09

2 days at home, 2 days in local office and 1 day in other office an hour away. Sometimes 2 in the office an hour away but I’m reducing it to one.

BeeCucumber · 20/01/2024 09:18

I have a hybrid contract but no one enforces any rules. We are a team of 20 and we have 5 desks between us at the office which we would need to book if we wanted a day at work. I very occasionally go in to pick up new kit but otherwise I WFH full time.

headcheffer · 19/01/2024 09:20

I'm supposed to do two days in the office, I don't and neither does anyone from my team.

Same here, but the emphasis is on getting the job done, not where you’re doing it

Clearinguptheclutter · 20/01/2024 20:41

1 day in the office, some do more. But it’s quite common to miss the 1 if for example you have a cold or your child is ill.
so 1 day in the office most weeks.
the company actually downsized the office recently so likely there would be not enough space if they wanted us in 2/3 days.

we also have some 100% remote colleagues but they have a remote contract whereas we are specifically hybrid

Clearinguptheclutter · 20/01/2024 20:53

FWIW I do think companies generally are working towards wanting people in more, sadly. I don’t think it will go back to pre-Covid times but there is an anti-wfh trend developing

If you’re at the beginning of your career, it’s hugely beneficial to be around experienced folks and socially youngsters will probably prefer it to being at home in their tiny flats and shared houses.

When you’re 45, been doing what you do for 20+ years and have a family to manage I find it quite offputting the thought that I can’t be trusted to do my job properly. Plus although I genuinely enjoy seeing my colleagues, I am WAAAAY more productive at home. As most of us are.

The Daily Mail would have you believe this, but I see no evidence of this in real life

I work with a lot of multinational companies as clients and it’s absolutely true, on a general level. Especially for American companies (regardless of where you’re based)

Twolittleloves · 20/01/2024 21:30

Work for the local council- one day a week my team is supposed to be in the office, but that falls on my non working day.
Ideally I am supposed to base myself in the office one of my days, but rarely do....I am out and about visiting clients, most of the rest of the time I work from home.
The managers don't challenge this....they work from home quite alot anyway themselves.

CatamaranViper · 20/01/2024 21:41

4 days in the office per week as standard but can request WFH days when needed and have unlimited time off

Jk987 · 20/01/2024 22:36

2 days a week in the office. It's monitored by our swipe cards so they know. I'm fine with the balance and think it's fair.

problembottom · 20/01/2024 23:15

I WFH before covid but went to the London head office every few months or so. Since Covid that head office has shrunk and most people now WFH. I haven’t seen anyone I work with in person for five years which is quite mad when I think about it!

HundredMilesAnHour · 20/01/2024 23:40

We were allowed to WFH up to 3 days/week but that's now been reduced to 2 days. There's a big push to have everyone back in the office. Apparently they have spent so much on our building that they expect us to be using it. Which is the opposite of what they were saying a year ago. 🤔Ridiculous really as I spent most of my day on Teams calls with people in other countries so it doesn't really matter whether I'm at home or in the office.

Redcar1992 · 21/01/2024 07:41

Fully remote but attend once a month because I want to
