If I get made redundant can I claim job seekers - I currently only work 1 day per week?

my employer has just sold the business and although it is "business as usual" I think there may be redundancies eventually. Will I be able to claim benefit or job seekers? I work every Friday (ie 1 day per week)

You should be able to claim contributions based if you've been working - I do. My contributions run out next month though.

If you got redundancy pay then you wouldn't get anything straight away. If you have a partner you won't get any money but could still sign on so that your National Insurance is paid.
You may get more tax credits.

that depends on how long you were working, however, and how many hours a week.

Yes you may be eligible for contribution based JSA (the fact that you have been made redundant means you will not be sanctioned in any way) they do take into account any savings I think the limit is about £6000... this lasts 6 mths after that it's income based and it's unlikely you will recieve anything but credits because your partner is in full-time employment...you may however be able to recieve Working and Child Tax Credits...

contributions based jobseekers is paid irregardless of any savings you may have (including redundancy £) and partners earnings. it is claimed for a maximum of six months and dependent on contributions you paid whilst working in the two full previous tax years prior to your claim (so tax years 06/07 & 05/06 in your case.) Very difficult to say for def if you would be entitled without sight of your contributions record. You claim online now.

The limit is £6000 if you are claiming Housing and Council tax benefit. Otherwise it is around £16000 in savings.

also to recieve credits you must adhere to the rules of JSA...ie actively seeking employment and keeping a full record of this...

The on line claim is a 40 minute telephone call in which they take all details of when you finish employment,savings , children etc.
They then make you an appointment to see an advisor at the Job Centre.
