Anyone done a baby massage course?

I'm thinking of training in baby massage, does anyone do it and be willing to give me some ideas of where to go/how to start?

Hi, I wrote a message about this a while back but didn't get any replies. I am not currently doing baby massage but am thinking about it. I did a search on the internet and found someone who does it already who was advertising for teachers. I have been to see a class and really enjoyed it but my husband doesn't think it will earn us enough money. You have to pay for the massage oils, the hire of the hall (unless you use your house) and I would also have to pay for childcare.

I would look on the internet, are there any classes in your area already? If so you might not get enough people interested. See if you can go along to a class because that made me want to do it even more, but I am currently pregnant so I can't do it now. There are lots of courses around (again I looked on the internet).

Whereabouts do you live?

I haven't officialy done a course but in my post natal group we had a lady show us what to do, so me and 2 other mums wrote instructions and researched which oils ect... and spent the first year of out dc's lives rubbing them down twice a week at local post natal groups in our area.

I'm in London. I remember after ds was born looking for a massage class but there weren't very many.

I agree it won't earn much money but I'm doing an antenatal training course as well so thought this would complement that nicely!

I did have a quick look on the internet but the courses I found cost over £300

do u have a college nearby? im hopefully going to do baby massage after the summer

Tegan did you earn any money from doing that? I presume you're not doing it anymore. I was thinking of doing baby yoga aswell and then if the courses took off I would give up my other part time job. I found the courses cost around the same but I think it's worth it if it's something you really enjoy and is going to earn you a bit of money.

I'm planning on doing a course myself when I have my baby so hopefully I will be able to find out a bit more then about whether there is much of a demand.

No we couldn't accept payment as we are no qualified. we stopped when our dc's were about 14 months as they really didn't want to lie still anymore.

I knew someone who taught this, and I arranged for her to teach my NCT group baby massage when the babies were around 4 months old. IIFC we all paid about £40 and there were 8 of us. It was a 5 week course, in my house, each session lasting about 2 hours.

However, my village had a baby clinic and the health visitors arranged baby massage classes for the new mums anyway - pretty much the same stuff, and 50p for the whole course. I think a lot of HVs are doing this now.

I did a baby massage course in Barnet with my daughter. It ran for 6 weeks and cost £45. It was great and I still do the massage at home. I got a free bottle of oil, some notes, a plastic coated sheet with the massage routine and a certificate with my and Rachel's name on! I think she runs classes in Finchley too. Definately worth trying - good way to meet other new mums too! Anne
