any theatre nurses on here? Is it a good job, sort of tempted to apply for job

I keep hearing stories about moody surgeons and am a bit hesitant. Any ideas what it is like to work in theatres

I am a theatre nurse and yes surgeons can be moody but so can nurses! I enjoy it but definitely not everyone's cup of tea! Are you a nurse? If you think you'd like it but haven't been in theatre before I'd really recommend you visit first, most serious applicants do. People often spend a few hours or 1/2 day in theatre working with us if they're totally new to the environment, I did before i applied for my post as well. Hope that's helpful.

Dh works in day surgery, which is good for us, as he gets no nights or weekends, and very few late shifts (one a week, max).

Surgeons aren't moody all the time, they're all different. Some are lovely, especially the women!

Ok, wasn't sure if you were a nurse or not. In that case give it a go, one big plus is that you only have one patient at a time and in that respect it's way better than the wards. Certainly can be busy and stressful but just in a different way to having 12 patients all needing you.

thought it may be a change from having all the agro from relatives and being caught in between
modern matrons, social workers and patients when it comes to discharges. That is not to say, i am doing it to get away from job i do now, will just be a change. Gaia, what hours do you do - days and nights etc...

I worked in theatre (breast and maxillo facial) for about 9 months, found it very hierarchial between the nursing staff. Perhaps it was just the hospital I worked in but I moved into mental health (conversion) and now dual trained so have more options opened now..don't regret my stint as a theatre nurse, but glad I moved on and done more training.
Give it a shot if you think you might like it. It's a highly stressful environment, esp the scrub role (I was employed as a scrub nurse). Had some really good shifts too, not to put a complete dampner on it! It's all relative I suppose, everyone likes different environments for various reasons.
As someone else has rightly pointed out, head in for an afternoon to see what you make of it all.
