Hi ladies.

I am turning 34 and have a six month old son. Career wise I had a long term job as an Executive Assistant (a glamourised term now for a PA) and an E-commerce business selling more natural products which I started at the beginning of Covid - this wasn’t really going to be a career as such but more a small business I started to keep my brain ticking over. I could not compete with Amazon so unfortunately I had to wind it down.

For years I have been feeling quite lost and deflated career wise, as if I am being left behind in an ever changing world where all my friends are good at something and I am not. I have been considering saving the £10k cost of a law conversion course and doing that when little one is old enough, with the view to becoming a solicitor.

I keep reading about Chat GDP recently and how so may jobs are about to become obsolete which is just a bit terrifying!

Basically this is a bit of a 2-in-1 post where I’m asking for any suggestions of job roles I can train for in my 30’s which are AI proof, with a decent liveable wage, along with any moral boosting stories of other women retraining/ changing careers later in life and being happy!

Good exec PAs are like gold dust. One option would be to find a job doing that while you explore what you'd like to do longer-term. You could target roles in areas that interest you.

What are you good at, what do you really enjoy, and what do you dislike doing, what are you not so good at?

I worked in various roles in landscaping and council jobs, admin and design type roles but never really what I wanted. Got stuck in w
Learning a brand new piece of 3d drawing software when youngest was 9 months old. Now run my own part time business using the same software to make 3d visualisations. Think this is safe from ai at the moment as its based on real locations and scale drawings and technical details. Dont know this is necessary where you want to go but just saying it can be done. Key for me was building up a really good portfolio, I was marketing myself and my skills.
