OK DH NEEDS A CAREER CHANGE-LOVES COMPUTERS-NEEDS TO EARN AT LEAST 35K CAR AND PENSION-ANY IDEAS PLEASE

He presently works for a large bank and is under more and more pressure.
His role is very likely to be made redundant in future years so we are trying to make some sort of a plan in advance.
He is willing to do degree ect or whatever .Just wondering if there are any good jobs out there he could look at preparing to apply for iyswim.
Any ideas please xxxxxxxx

Estimating is a good one to get into and apparently you don't need a degree. My ex bf gets about £40/ph (self-employed). Loads of pc work there and the occasional site visit.

There are loads of IT jobs out there that pay more than 35k - but unfortunately you need to have experience for most of them.

Learning a programming language or 2 would be a good start and he could then see if it suited him. Something like HTML, CSS and jsp could be used to do some web development in his spare time to begin with (making websites for people etc).

Anything in Project Controls (cost/schedule/estimating), big shortage. Working for engineering/construction firms, big boom on everywhere at the moment. I don't have a degree or any formal quals for that matter and earn 37k (12yrs in the field, and not senior role)

aker kvaerner were thinking to take on apprentices to train people up they're that desperate.

Other big players, Bechtel, Foster Wheeler, VAI.

He could try looking at the business that supply the back end IT to banks. If he has some IT knowledge, that and his background in banking may put him in a good position.
