why did you write it and not just do it verbally? or did you do both? what did you write?

I wrote my last one, then I took them to an employment tribunal.

I think it depends on why you want to leave.

I've always done it in writing but handed it in person or done verbally as well. If you're leaving on good terms then I would put something like 'I am giving x weeks notice to terminate my employment.... My last working day will be....' I would then say something about why I was leaving or that I had enjoyed my time in the job. It doesn't have to be long but it makes it official.

pmsl at avenap. nice.

ll - I was thinking more about the interesting ones - the ones that say something more than "I resign" iyswim. I just wondered how normal it is.

I handed in my resignation (in writing) on the first of January........I'm still waiting for a response .

Mind you I'm also still waiting for a response to the letter I wrote about my maternity leave starting (and as the information I needed was from the payroll office - which was COMPLETELY separate from where we actually worked I'd asked for confirmation in writing).........and that was on the 7th of February LAST YEAR !

It's normal to put it in writing isn't it?

Everyone knows where they stand then.
