How do you go about obtaining a police report for a job?

My brother has just emailed me from abroad. He has worked in malaysia as a diving instructor for the past 3 years. He has now been offered a job in the maldives (tough life isn't it) and his prospective employers want a police report from him from home (here) - to confirm he's been a good boy and doesn't have a criminal record, i spose.
He's asked whether he needs to come gome to get it or can me or my dad get it for him. how do we get it in the first place? is there a service you go through? any help gratefully received x

I've got one of these, as I used to work for the NHS. My employer arranged it for me but I'll have a look for the report which is called a 'DISCLOSURE REPORT' and see which authority it came from.....

Usually the company you are going to work for arranges this for you. Obviously easier if they are in this country though. i have one of these that the local authority did for me when I started work as an L.S.A.

There are obtained from the Criminal Records Bureau here but I'm not sure that you can apply as an individual, only as a registered organisation.

You can apply as an individual - in fact it is cheaper and easier that is why some employers ask employees/potential employees to apply directly to the criminal records bureau.
