can you do senior jobs part-time and at a distance?

Depends what type of role and how much if any managment is involved. Also how part-time and how far?

I'm managing it - just

I work 3 days a week on site and one day at home. Its taking a little while for them to realise I AM working when at home and am contactable, but we're getting there.

I'm also doing 5 days work in 4

best case scenario - 3 days in office, 2 half days at home (ie 10-3)

worst case scenario - 1 day in office, 3 days at home (spread over the 4 days)

arguments for - I have done a full-time management job in 3 days a week and was very well complimented (by manager and staff); I have also managed a remote team (them in Paris; me in London)

Your best case scenario looks managable - I am struggling getting used to working from home although I fit in 8 hours whenever is convienient as its just admin work and the rest of the time am "contactable" if needed. I do have motivation problems though at home and would much rather spend time with DD, organise dinner etc. I'm fine when in the office...

My real issue is fitting in all the work and having some time off work....i used to have the weekends off and now I find myself doing a bit from home every day or doing it while DH is around to see to DD.

From what you say, you'll manage fine . How old are your DCs?

I was told (I was a manaager) "you need to be there to answer your team's spontaneous queries" when I asked to do 3 days in the office and 1 a home They clearly had never heard of a telephone.
We compromised on three and three quarter days in the office, then told me eight months later it wasn't working. So I went back fulltime at six months pregnant, commuting two hours each way.
I'm now freelance!
IMO opinion, it depends how much they want it to work. My company (a huge company employing mostly women) just didn't want it to.
