So do I, so much that I went freelance. Have a rant!

jamescagney · 04/02/2008 11:08

Please do! Bloody mondays...

MascaraOHara · 04/02/2008 11:09

So DO I!!

I hate it so much.. get it off chest

whoops · 04/02/2008 11:10

I'd love to go freelance but can't take the risk. I hate the cliqueness (sp) and having to watch my back. Also the one rule for them and another for me. I'm really struggling here now and if i didn't have a family would be walking now.

When I worked in an office, I got through it by making my own little world - there was my desk, with my stuff, my work and the work relationships I needed to have. I just tried to rise above the rest. I did actually get on well with some people and I'm not bad at working in a team, but it was the whole atmosphere and ethos and the things people cared about making a drama out of - I just could not be arsed and I totally ignored it. Yes I got a reputation for being prickly and I also got laughed at - sometimes affectionately though - for burying my nose in my work and refusing to join in with gossip and messing about. But after all that, when I left, people were really nice to me and I still work a lot with that company (on a freelance basis).

Some people just aren't cut out for it. Whoops, even if you can dream about going freelance, make a plan even if you don't plan to put it into practise yet (or ever...) - that could help. I know i used to dream about it.

agree with snowleopard. Dont think for one minute that it's you who is lacking in something. I work with vulnerable children and families and my colleagues are the most bullying, clicquish (Sp!!)bunch of no hopers.
Really, create your own work environment as much as poss and do look for something else.

Snowleopard - that sounds just like here! I keep myself in my office and occasionally come out to have a chat but i don't feel i fit anymore. For some reason i think they see me as a threat but i am the only one that does my job and can't do theirs! I am waiting to hear about another job that i had am interview about a month ago but i am losing hope on that one the more time that passes even though the agency think it will happen.

I am in a school and its still the same, though going out with the boss doesn't help I can't wait to leave !

flowerybeanbag · 04/02/2008 11:38

Whoops I thought you were taking that school hours job you got offered, no?

whoops · 04/02/2008 11:51

I want to take it but they seem to be dragging their feet deciding what they are doing about the woman currently doing the job so i am still stuck here until i hear anymore

They will see you as a threat, because you focus your job and that shows up people who like to spend their time bitching, gossiping and creating cliques. Some workplaces are like a big playground! People will actually resent you for working to a reasonable standard.

whoops · 04/02/2008 15:27

I've just had a call with a job offer for that school hours job but it isn't as much money as i thought. I really want to take it to get me out of here and consider a pub job or something to make the money up. Lots of talks with dh coming up so look out for me in aibu later!!

Oh well done whoops! You never know, you might get promoted after you move... good luck.

whoops · 04/02/2008 15:54

Unfortunately there wouldn't be scope for promotion there. It is a sole position. They have said they will review salary after 6 months though. The job sounds less stressful than the one here though
