I'm starting a new job and I'm thinking ahead to what holidays I'll get off. I will be entitled to 154 hrs holiday which works out at 22days so I'm wondering how many days I'll use up with the bank holidays etc

Hope that makes sense

Thanks for helping

Depends on your role!

I work in a call centre, agents get 20 days plus bank holidays

Non agent roles get 25 plus bank holidays

Are you part time?

kitcat15 · 29/12/2022 18:29

Well there's 9 bank Holidays next year so that doesn't leave much...surely you get more than that?

AndrewGloubermanisaperv · 29/12/2022 18:29

Yep completely depends on your role and the bank.

determinedtomakethiswork · 29/12/2022 18:30

Bank holidays are in addition to your allowance, OP.

purpleme12 · 29/12/2022 18:33

I work in a call centre.
The call centre is shut on bank holidays (although it didn't used to be years ago)

Skyeheather · 29/12/2022 18:34

Where I used to work there was a rota, whether you worked a BH or not depended if you were on the rota to work on that day or not. BH were just added to the annual holiday allowance.

Does your call centre work 365 days a year, 24 hrs or does it shut down for holidays, evenings etc?

Lesina · 29/12/2022 18:35

You will get the bank holidays in addition yo
your holiday entitlement. If you work a bank holiday you will get a day added to your holiday entitlement.

Sprogletsmum2 · 29/12/2022 18:40

I work in a call centre and we close on bank Holidays. I have worked in call centres that don't close for bank hols and one that was open on Christmas day.
Your allowance sounds like they will close for bank hols.

whenthedreamhappens · 29/12/2022 18:42

Yes, I'm thinking bank hols are extra! Sounds brilliant I've never got BH off before 😃

Are you part time or full time?
Part time staff will get fewer holidays

mozzyworries · 29/12/2022 18:57

I work for an online bank.

Our non-customer care team staff get bank holidays off in addition to their annual leave.

Our customer care team get a set number of hours annual leave, plus the bank holiday allowance.

They don't get bank holidays off as standard (they can book them off if they like ), but they do get the hours to use when they like.

Are you talking about working in a bank head office or in a high street bank "store" OP?

whenthedreamhappens · 29/12/2022 19:29

So it will be a full time (35hrs) customer service centre. I'm
Not sure if that makes a difference?

Thanks for all
The help, you're all great!

Dp works in branch of major high Street bank. He gets all bank Holidays off

mummatoI · 29/12/2022 19:38

I work for a high street bank and get similar days holiday PLUS bank holidays. There are some head office teams that have to stay in, they get extra pay and time off if they work bank holidays, but all retail based staff are off

dementedpixie · 29/12/2022 19:40

You will need to check what your contract says about bank holidays. Is it 22 days plus 8 bank holidays? And depends if the contact centre is open or closed on bank holidays. If its open you may have to specifically ask for them as annual leave.

whenthedreamhappens · 29/12/2022 19:42

It doesn't specifically mention b/H . It just says I'll receive a total of 154 total hrs holiday per year.

OP posts:
Chasingsquirrels · 29/12/2022 19:44

Assuming UK then statutory minimum is 28 days, so if your contract is less than that it is presumably BH on top.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2022 20:30

I'd enquire about it then as 22days/154 hours is below the statutory minimum of 28 days.

Does it not mention bank holidays anywhere?
