What do you say about time out to have a baby when you apply for a job?

I am applying for jobs after taking a year out to have my baby. What is the best way to say that I have had a year out on my covering letter?

I would not make a big deal of it, just say "After a year on maternity leave I am looking for an exciting new role" blah blah.

But then I have just been made redundant from very family-unfriendly industry so what do I know?

Career break following birth of child ?

Are you not entitled to a year of maternity leave now? So don't call it a year out - call it maternity leave.

Great - thanks!

I have always just put maternity leave on CV's and application forms, TBH I would be worried if interviewing someone who appeared not to have taken time off.

If you really feel you have to make excuses you could say how you kept up with your IT skills or something. But you really don't have to.
