Requesting a payrise

I like my job and have recently asked for a payrise but the best I'm likely to get is a 'We'll see in six months'. That wouldn't be good enough for me and would probably prompt me to start looking for a new job but is it ever a good idea to be honest and tell my manager that?

Look up something called the 'DESC script'. It's a way of phrasing your request in a structured way, and including the consequences if you don't get what you want (i.e. looking for a job elsewhere).

You just need to be confident they won't call you on it. You can only threaten to leave once.
