Local Government Market Supplement

I’m looking at applying for a role subject to 20% Market Supplement within a local authority. It is at a similar level and role as what I’m already doing and I’m only considering it because of the market supplement (without supplement it will be similar to what I already get paid). If I am successful with the role I’ll be returning from mat leave sooner than expected and will have a longer commute.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with the market supplement element? The policy states it will be for a max 12 months only, subject to annual reviews. Do they generally get extended? If not I don’t think I’ll go for it at all

That depends entirely on individual circumstances so nobody can tell you what would happen in this one. But if it says 12 months only, then that is what I would expect - especially given the hammering that local authority budgets are getting now.
