Work

Christmas Bank Holidays

I need some help around the Christmas bank holidays and my usually days off.

I work for a company that’s open Mon-Sat, eveyone is day off on Sunday and we each take a day off in the week.

We are closed on the 26th and 27th as these are bank holidays and our contract states 20 days holiday plus bank holidays, all our locations close on bank holidays.

Does this mean I get 4 days off that week? 26th (Mon) 27th (Tue) plus my usual Sunday and normal day off in the week as these are just days off and not holiday. All seems very confusing.

You do not work on 26 or 27 Dec or 2 January 2023. I would then expect to work 3 days of the remaining 4 days that week if everyone gets 1 day off as you describe. If everyone does that, surely the work is covered? You remove the bank holidays from the equation.

Thanks for the reply, I am new mum and new to mumsnet.

We don’t work bank holidays and they are part of our holiday allowance.

we are closed on 26/27 as they are bank holidays, the businesses is closed on Sunday so I’m going to take Friday off work, if I work a day in the week I’m clearly working for free!

Its a family business so I want to ask first to avoid drama, HR and holidays are very complex, wish the law was more clear. Thank you for your help @TizerorFizz
