4 day week but which day off?

Currently full time 35 hours but looking at dropping a day a week and doing 32 hours across four days but I have no idea which day to have off. Those who are part time what days did you choose to have off?

I am thinking maybe a Monday or Friday so I get a long weekend but could be convinced by other days.

I am probably slightly more drawn to a Monday as most Bank Holidays fall on a Monday and in my mind this I’d have less “forced” annual leave days and have more days to choose to have off with my annual leave allowance.

Definitely go for a Monday, it's so liberating having that day off!

Abracadabra12345 · 08/12/2022 20:27

Don’t take Mondays off because so many are paid Bank Holidays

boobashka · 08/12/2022 20:27

I love having a Monday off work. Makes Sundays much more relaxed 😌

Tayegete · 08/12/2022 20:27

Monday for me too. You don’t have that Sunday night dread.

ADialgaAteMyDog · 08/12/2022 20:29

I used to have a Wednesday off, not by choice but we all reduced our hours during the coalitin government.
Initially I was pissed off but it's quite a handy day, and you only have to do a run of two days. Nice to go to town on a weds, book appointments etc, do the cleaning and shopping mid week. It does mean you can't do long weekends away etc but I can't because of school anyway.

Sprouttreesareamazing · 08/12/2022 20:30

I have tried both. The feeling on a Monday when the dc go to school and you can go back home is wonderful! Doesn't have the same buzz on a Friday!

JamMakingWannaBe · 08/12/2022 20:31

I had a Wednesday. Breaks up the week and meant customers/managers weren't waiting 3 days (over a long weekend) for a response.

PuppyMonkey · 08/12/2022 20:31

I used to work 4 days and had Monday off - meant I got my pro rata bank holidays added to annual leave, yay. Plus it’s lovely having Sunday off knowing you’ll get the next day off too.

fizzyfood · 08/12/2022 20:32

Wednesday off here. Helps me catch up on home stuff midweek

Petrarkanian · 08/12/2022 20:32

Wednesday, not Monday you miss the bank holidays.

AgathaMystery · 08/12/2022 20:33

Wednesday! Never work more than 2 days in a row again!!

Hopemax · 08/12/2022 20:34

I have Mondays off which I would highly recommend for reasons others have posted above! Only depends on how your work sort bank holidays and if it would adversely affect you.
I also liked when I used to have Wednesdays off, it makes the week more manageable because if anything unexpected comes up it's only ever 2 days until you have a day off to deal with it.

NoelNoNoel · 08/12/2022 20:34

Monday or Wednesday

BCBird · 08/12/2022 20:35

I dropped a day at work. I'm.a teacher so the day is dictated. It a Tues
Initially I was annoyed, would have preferred Mon or Fri but it ok. Nxt year hoping for Wed. Now I can have my weekends free.

SheWoreYellow · 08/12/2022 20:36

I don’t work Friday and like it!

LunaLoveFood · 08/12/2022 20:37

I didn't like having Mondays off as I missed so much that was going on. A Wednesdays or Friday is much better.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 08/12/2022 20:39

Monday for me. It works out so much better for bank holidays. That's at least four full days using a part time entitlement. Assuming your company don't work Bank Holidays.

herbaltea21 · 08/12/2022 20:40

Check your work guidelines around bank holidays.
I work Mondays and I get royally shafted for bank holidays. At my place they take bank holidays or do your holiday allowance and do not allow you the option to work them or take them unpaid. So I am forced to take 6 days annual leave on bank holidays. It's crap. I wish I worked Fridays so I could take my annual leave when I want to!

catsonahottinroof · 08/12/2022 20:40

I'd have either a Monday or Wednesday, but there are advantages to Fridays too.
Monday - for bank holiday reasons and nice to be off after the weekend when everyone else is at school/work.
Wednesday - I know a couple of people who have Wednesdays off and they like it as only ever working two days in a row.
Friday - if you go on a lot of short breaks or like to go out at night, this may be more useful.

scrivette · 08/12/2022 20:42

Depends on how bank holidays are worked out for your company. I get the time back (pro rata) to take with annual leave.

Mondays are great to have off as it's a long weekend, but if I had to choose it would probably be Wednesday as then it's only ever 2 days until time off. My managers preferred Wednesday as well as people tend to take Mon/Fri off so it helped with the office cover.

Hedonism · 08/12/2022 20:42

I'm going to stick in a vote for Thursday, seeing as I don't think anyone else has yet. 3 dats in, day off, pop back in to tie up anything else that has happened, weekend.

Sagittarius25 · 08/12/2022 20:43

I'm not exactly in the same boat as I work full time but I work from home one day a week and I've always chosen a Wednesday as it means I only have to get up and out of the house and commute in to the office two days in a row and honestly I love it. So similarly if you had Wednesdays off you only ever have to work two days in a row.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 08/12/2022 20:44

Wednesdays is my day off by choice. You are only ever in two days then off again. Wonderful.

Mydogatemypurse · 08/12/2022 20:45

I used to have mondays off but i missed out on all the bank holidays. I have fri off now

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/12/2022 20:45

Monday for me. Generally a quiet day, still a long week end. The way my organisation deals with BH for PTers, I actually benefit from having my non -working day on a Monday.
