What does working in HR involve and how would I get there ?

Hi all, just wanted to ask the questions above... basically I'm planning on a career change and I'll be starting out from the bottom (this is fine as I have no qualifications so all good) if I was eventually wanting to get a career in HR how would I go about it ? Also what are the day to day duties of an HR colleague ?
