How long would you expect to wait on a reply?

I had an interview last week and as I've heard nothing I thought I'd case up, so that I know what's happening. How long would you imagine it would take the HR person to reply ?

Did they say anything at the end of the interview about when they expected to get back to you? If not, I think it would be reasonable to follow up after a week, just ask when you could expect an update/feedback.

Usually if I hadn't heard anything a week after an interview, I would assume I had been unsuccessful, but it does depends on whether they had other candidates to see.

They said I would hear by the end of the week (last week) I have assumed I'm unsuccessful but I've emailed the HR manager to let me know, obviously worded nicely etc, but she hasn't got back to me either.

I work in HR. We have a general inbox and aim to reply within 72 hours. But, if the manager doesn't answer us it may be longer, but we would normally let you know we are awaiting feedback at least.
