Redundancy - company bankrupt

I got given notice of redundancy in September and my notice period is up next month.

Since being served notice and having it confirmed I'd be entitled to statutory redundancy the business has went bust this week and the owner declared bankrupt.

I've been told I can claim from the government once I get a reference number from the company dealing with this and my payment should be for the same amount I was due from my employer as it was statutory and not anything extra.

The question I have is - I've got an interview for a new job next week and if successful the start date would be after my notice period ends but I may be asked to sign a contract before my notice period ends.

Will this affect my claim for statutory redundancy from the government?

I had been with the company for 24 years so even at statutory it's too much money for me to walk away from especially as any jobs I've been looking at are considerably less money than I'm currently on.

Hi @MistressWeatherwax1 ,
This happened to me earlier this year.
I started a new job a week after the company closed, this didn’t affect my claim.
However, the payout wasn’t as much as I expected, as I had been with the company less than 2 years, so my main payout was any money owed.

Call ACAS who should be able to give you a definitive answer.

If you're signing for a contract that starts after your notice period then you should be ok but I agree with the advice to call ACAS for peace of mind.

Thanks everyone, I'll give them a call in the morning. I tried tonight but they were closed.
