Would you move from a sales assistant job to a call centre in a bank if it ment you could get better hours!

Just this. I have posted about this last night but just want another few options before I decide. I have been offered a job in a call centre taking inbound calls for a major back. Obviously cc's get a bad rep but if it was better hours, more money, and probably more opportunities would you make the move?

If it’s better hours and more money why wouldn’t you?

Be wary of ‘the call centre stone’. In my experience they like to reward with food Wink

Hahah thanks for your reply. I guess I'm just worried as it's two v different jobs but I would like away from retail

I'd definitely do that. There may well be other opportunities in the bank that you could take up later.

Be prepared for some very distressed customers, though.

I worked in a bank call centre. I enjoyed it. The work was challenging especially when customers were agitated but I only left when the role became all about sales which I wasn’t interested in.

@ICanHideButICantRun this is the but that stresses me tho. I hate confrontation in any form so it will be the not so nice part

@afaloren another thing I wouldn't like! Sales! I don't think it's actively selling but maybe making recommendations to customers on the phone if needs be.

My current job is so easy and I worry that I will regret the move. At the same time my hours are terrible (retail tends to be)

If you are interested in career progression I would move. My first job after college was in a bank CC and I ended up moving to an internal office after a year which was M-F 9-5 and I loved it! The customers can be irate sometimes but so can retail customers anyway and you will develop a thick skin to it soon.

KILM · 23/11/2022 14:07

If you want to try and progress or even move sideways into something different or less directly customer facing, i'd definitely recommend you do it! You will find you get much more opportunity than retail.

In a bank there is a huge variety of call centre jobs. You could be doing anything from processing transactions to logging complaints via dealing with bereavement. You need to find out what sort of role it is to help you make up your mind.

@countrygirl99 great point ! Thank you. I'll find this out.

I just wonder does all jobs have pros and cons and you just have to get past that new initial "new start" phase
