Waiting for a job offer

I have been unhappy in my job role for awhile now and I want something different to fit in with family life.

I found another job with the perfect hours (in retail), I applied and I was offered the job on the spot which I verbally accepted at the beginning of last week. I was then told I would receive an email with a job offer and a start date the next day. I never got an email. I tried to contact them over the phone but the HR department did not answer the phone. So, at the end of last week I went to the store as I wanted to see if there was any problems. There was a problem with my paperwork but we got it sorted. I was then told I would receive an email with a job offer and a phone call today, as I need to hand in my notice.

I still have not been contacted. I was so excited to be getting out of a workplace that is toxic and being bullied. Shall I give it a bit more time before I get in contact with them again? My anxiety is really playing up, sorry!

I’ve been having a slow recruitment issues after being offered a job - not super slow but lack of communication and it was around 14 days after my interview that I got an offer letter (though I knew the week before i was being offered the role).

I’ve learned you do need to chase recruitment teams and HR in order to make timely progress. Maybe give HR another call - it can’t do any harm… or do you have an email for them?

Nightmare. I was also supposed to hear back earlier this week and I’ve heard nothing. Mind you mine was to hear about whether I made it to the second interview (actually third if you count the initial phone chat).

I hope you hear back soon, OP. Though TBH I am wondering if the lack of communication is a feature of the workplace. I am stuck in a toxic organisation too so don’t particularly want to move from one toxic place to another!

It’s so hard to be excited when you don’t know what’s going on!
good luck, I hope you get the response you want shortly 🤞🏻

Oh thanks @AXCS !!

It is difficult to get excited about the new job. I finally had someone call me back only to be told they are not handling the vacancy but she will have a word with who is tomorrow. Quite rude to be fair and it is making me question whether I should take the job or not.

I have still not gotten my job offer or start date yet either despite them telling me I would. They kept saying last week ‘hand in your resignation now’ I am glad I have not yet.

Goodluck @calmama!

And good luck to you @McCrispish!

I hope it all works out. It’s horrible being left hanging. I’m going to contact the recruiter today and see if I get a reply. Hoping you and I will get some clarification today!

McCrispish · 25/11/2022 13:13

@calmama i hope you have got a reply? I still do not have an email of a job offer or a start date. I am going to give up chasing them for it, it’s a supermarket job but it seems as if I have to jump through hoops to get anywhere. I am disappointed though.

Got a call at 5pm on Friday to say I had not been successful. I was pretty devastated to be honest. The job was perfect for me. And I was perfect for it! What to do. 🍷

I hope you hear back soon too, @McCrispish , though it does seem you’ve been left hanging pretty long. I totally get the desperation to get out of a toxic, bullying role. I’m in the exact same situation. And it looks like I’ll remain there!

Really hope you hear some positive news, OP. Put your CV out there and then it won’t burn so much when you don’t hear back. I find it also takes the edge off a bad work situation too as you have that hope you will get out of there soon. Good luck!
