Changing divisions at work

Would you tell your manager that you have been offered a role in another division in the same company before starting the transfer process? The director of the other division has offered me a role and wants to go ahead and speak to the manager of the whole organisation for approval and I'm inclined to tell my manager before that happens out of respect to him. Not to ask for permission but so that he hears from me. DH on the other hand thinks it's not necessary and he wouldn't expect anyone in his team to do that first. Wondering everyone's thoughts?

If it were with us, they would have to be told as part of the application process, so yes, I would tell them.

I applied for a job in another division recently and told my manager I was going to before I even tarted up my CV. It is a requirement of the application process but I would have anyway.

Definitely tell them before they hear it from someone else.
