Hi, Here we go again, anyone else set up a new thread yet? Hope to find everyone 🙂

......It would be different should we be true freelancers with direct contact with, and paid by, our own clients in that we would negotiate and stick to a contract for a certain amount of work to be done, but these TCs are intermediaries/agencies and it's gig economy work we do for them and they shouldn't be stipulating how much work we do, or how to do it, when they don't regard us as employees.

@Whitestar55 Im just going to try that. If it doesn't work nothing lost. Keep an eye out on Dict8

TypoQueen1 · 15/12/2022 11:38

Has Dict8 picked up for everyone? I'm seeing more work although still no cheque. I know it's probably because of postal strikes but really it's 2022, we should be paid direct into a bank account🙄

YellowBellyLola · 15/12/2022 11:48

@TypoQueen1 Yes, mine has picked up dramatically. They have not been cleared by the end of the (week)day for about a week or so, and often go up over 100 tasks waiting.

Whitestar55 · 15/12/2022 11:54

It could be that a lot of transcribers work on DICT8 in November to get money in for Christmas, but after that they ease off. It could also be that those who do it part time, but have other jobs, realise that it's becoming less worthwhile due to the lack of pay increase and rising cost of living.

Lhoot1 · 15/12/2022 12:03

Mine has increased dramatically too been working the evening and weekends nowadays

Gally123 · 15/12/2022 12:06

it is usually due to the doctors trying to get all their work done before Christmas and a few days off. I used to see several hundred letters in the queue every day, the last couple of years, even before COVID, this did not happen and one year where there used to be lots on Christmas Eve, there was nothing and I sat twiddling my thumbs. We shall see if it lasts. There may be very little between Christmas and New Year.

joewe41 · 15/12/2022 13:07

@TypoQueen1 No mine is still dead. Been nothing for 2 or 3 months. Keep hoping it was going to pick up

Chrissols · 17/12/2022 16:31

Mine has picked up now, but have now got work elsewhere as got fed up of waiting.......

Newinmarch22 · 19/12/2022 10:10

Cheque issued (supposedly) 30th November, received yesterday 18th December, so will now not clear for 5-6 days if lucky so virtually a whole month with no pay, so much for money to spend at christmas. Absolutely disgusting!

Frazzledbynature · 19/12/2022 10:21

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. I've sustained a wrist injury so no more typing now until the new year. I was lucky to have made enough money to take me through.

Just online to request cheque!

carosel2 · 19/12/2022 14:01

Still waiting for my cheque! I know the postal strikes wont have helped but its disgusting they havent at least offered a one off payment through BACS to see us through. Its incredible

TypoQueen1 · 19/12/2022 15:07

I'm still waiting too.........

TypoQueen1 · 19/12/2022 15:13

In fact I'm not doing any more work for them until I'm paid, it's a real insult.

carosel2 · 19/12/2022 16:29

@TypoQueen1 - yes it is, its our income that some of us rely on. Im sure their salaried staff would kick off if their pay wasnt given at the end of the month, its utterly appalling

TypoQueen1 · 19/12/2022 16:58

Yes and I bet they don't expect to be paid by their clients by cheque either.

Gally123 · 19/12/2022 17:06

@TypoQueen1 - I have stopped typing for them as well at the moment as with the postal strikes I am not sure I will put in an invoice this month if I am not going to receive a cheque. In the circumstances I would rather wait a month than lose a month's pay (even if a small amount) in the post so concentrating on working for other people at the moment.

nomadchild · 19/12/2022 17:10

This was my fear when the work started to dry up that we would be the last to be paid. They can use the postal strikes as an excuse now. I bet they are all getting xmas bonuses and not struggling over the festive period. Haven't typed for them since October.

Whitestar55 · 19/12/2022 22:30

Looking on the bright side, it seems RTX Trust nurses aren't striking!

TypoQueen1 · 20/12/2022 15:21

"Cheques are not legal tender and never have been. Even today, if you owe someone money they are not obliged to accept a cheque. Instead, a creditor is entitled to be paid in legal tender and can refuse payment in any other form".

I'm still waiting.

carosel2 · 20/12/2022 23:43

Just thinking if their permanent salaried staff are paid by BACS why cant the transcriber be paid that way, surely the cost of ordering the paper the cheques are printed on and the envelopes, plus stamps etc must cost a fortune for the so called supposedly thousands of transcribers that are working for them. The postage alone is shocking even at 2nd class, plus time it takes for someone to put in envelopes etc what a waste of resources time and effort on those members of staff who will be getting paid a wage. It doesnt make sense other than them making a measly interest on the money left in their bank as long as possible before it gets transferred to our accounts.

Whitestar55 · 22/12/2022 11:46

The task list is rising today, but unfortunately with absolute soul destroying, sanity melting rubbish.

OP posts:
Newinmarch22 · 22/12/2022 15:55

Snap! Well over 100 tasks all day but most of them inaudible - gave up in the end!

Whitestar55 · 24/12/2022 11:03

Merry Christmas everyone 🎄, hope you all have a lovely time Xmas Smile

carosel2 · 24/12/2022 12:29
