@Whitestar55 the way I understood it, it is just the characters we type in the actual document, not the notes box or markers [1] etc as these are command buttons - although I may have missed something here - it's a looooong time since I got the email and sadly will have deleted it back in the ice ages 😂😂

Frazzledbynature · 23/01/2023 12:53

I can add that if you just put a note onto the blank page due to reporting the dictation as nothing dictated for example you get paid 1 line. I've done it a few times.

deewu · 23/01/2023 13:09

If you use the word document character count including spaces and divide by 67 it seems to come out about right, if anything DICT8's is slightly better. I have tried it with five tasks today and they are all at or above my calculation (only by a line though) 😂

Whitestar55 · 23/01/2023 13:17

It's looking like we do get paid a line's worth for the extra characters that total under 67 then. It would be nice to have an acknowledgement from them that that we don't get paid for typing office instructions/notes for secretary in the notes box, but I guess they don't know how to justify this. DICT8 if you are following this thread, please can we have an email/video to explain the reasoning behind this. Thanks.

Chrissols · 23/01/2023 13:33

I do agree, as everybody does, that we should get paid for the notes to secretary etc., I am unsure how they get away with not paying us for this as it is compulsory to put them in!

Whitestar55 · 23/01/2023 15:07

As they don't pay us for it and we are not actually 'employed' by them, I don't see how they can make it compulsory, they can only guide us as to how to deal with these messages, butcould possibly end our contract if we don't comply with their guidance, but as they appear to be struggling to recruit and keep transcribers that probably wouldn't be in their best interest.

OP posts:
Chrissols · 23/01/2023 16:29

@Whitestar55 I don't think they will ever struggle to recruit sadly, as some use it just for a bit of 'pin money'

Whitestar55 · 23/01/2023 17:08

I think they're struggling to recruit/retain clients though.

TypoQueen1 · 23/01/2023 17:49

I type notes up very roughly, no punctuation etc. Have had no feedback funnily enough 🤔

Whitestar55 · 23/01/2023 18:42

They used to give feedback on the standard of the notes but it seems less so lately, probably because many transcribers have questioned it recently.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 23/01/2023 18:55

@joewe41 no the feedback will crop up from time to time no matter how long. There's nothing to type in my specialty. I've actually gone back to my old job and trying to convince team lead to put overflow onto tpro instead of dict8. Had my fill of dict8.

I find this message very distasteful and out of order. We all have gripes about our jobs in whatever arena; however, it seems to me that you have taken a step to far. You wish to advertise on a' Dict8 forum' that you are asking your place of work (NHS) to advocate moving their workflow to TPro away from Dict8. You have a contract with Dict8 do you not! Also you are absolutely throwing those of us who work soley for Dict8 'under the bus' by ensuring your own production to the max. I'll ask you this: Do you actually declare your earnings from Dict8 on a self-employed basis. You are working NHS (that makes it a second job). If you have 'had your fill of Dict8' then tell them you no longer wish to work for them (too many irons in the fire and you will get burnt) ... clearly you do not wish to work for Dict*8 (clear from your messages) SO, why do you? Also, create your own T'pro forum.

Gally123 · 23/01/2023 19:41

@TypoQueen1 that's interesting. I was once told to write "notes to secretary" word for word as dictated - I think I had missed off a "thank you" at the end as I had put "please" at the beginning and did not think both was necessary. That was when I first queried being paid for "notes to secretary" and told them that if it was not paid and was therefore left "free" and from the kindness of our hearts, that they could not leave legally leave feedback on what we wrote.

Whitestar55 · 23/01/2023 20:10

In my contract and the accompanying procedures guide, there is no mention of using the notes box to type up office instructions dictated by the doctor etc, to the secretary etc, and it states that this box should be used rarely and only for queries that the transcriber has relating to the dictation. I did not sign up to type office instructions by the dictator in it, and I didn't sign anything that states I agree to transcribe as an unpaid service. Instructions to type these notes to secretary have been added more recently and long after I signed my contract. I'm unsure of the significance of this relating to law of contract, but it certainly breaches the law of ethics and decency if you ask me.

Pinksville · 24/01/2023 10:42

@danblack87 I see your point, but questioning @joewe41, someone you don't know anything about as to whether they do or don't declare their earnings and then making it clear they are not wanted on this forum is "distasteful" too !!

danblack87 · 24/01/2023 13:59

@Pinksville : My point was if you wish to keep promoting TPro on a Dict8 forum and indicating that you are asking (NHS) to transfer that work load to TPro is totally unacceptable. They have a contract with Dict8 and, therefore, there are lines of contract which may have broken. I have not 'outed' anyone re. whether they are registered or not self-employed ... I didn't say they were not welcome on Dict8 forum either; merely stating that they should be more careful about what they are saying on here ... we all know (or think we do) that Dict8 monitor this site. It was more of a 'Beware of what you are saying'.

Chrissols · 24/01/2023 17:12

@danblack87 I tend to agree that stating persuasion of an NHS department to move over to another company is inappropriate - as you say, some people on here rely on their work with Dict8 and this is certainly not what they need to hear. I also think Dict8 will know each and every one of us on here by now as we have all commented on what feedback etc we have had from time to time, so regardless of our names on here I am sure they will know.

danblack87 · 24/01/2023 17:19

@Chrissols Thank you for seeing it from my perspective Not many would agree but I felt I needed to say something. Sorry if others disagree.

Pinksville · 24/01/2023 18:40

@danblack87 I began my post with - I see your point !

@danblack87 I don't think you were "outing" anyone, I do believe you were insinuating something as you said "Do you actually declare your earnings from Dict8 on a self-employed basis" Why would you ask this ? what business is it of yours ? and I think "create your own TPro forum" reads to me quite hostile.

Whitestar55 · 24/01/2023 18:43

I don't think she realised the impact the statement would have on those that rely purely on Dict8, and it's easy to get frustrated with this job. I felt so extremely flat with drudgery of transcribing today that I had to go off, eat a chocolate fresh cream Eclair, some peanut butter filled chocolate and watch Guns N Roses videos from the 80s (Axl Rose 😍).

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 24/01/2023 18:51

I typed that before your post appeared @Pinksville Hope you and @danblack87 are both okay and we can carry on discussing, saying stuff good or bad about transcription in general.

OP posts:
Whitestar55 · 24/01/2023 18:54

Think I'm getting @joewe41 mixed up with @Pinksville now. Hope @joewe41 is ok too, and I think I'd better go watch some more videos.

lol!! Oh Whitestar, you continue to amuse me, its funny you get an idea of someone and then they post that they love Guns and Roses and your total idea of them (yourself) goes up another level. I'm a bit of a rock chic myself 🤘

joewe41 · 24/01/2023 20:52

@Whitestar55 You are right, it was sheer frustration. I apologise for what I said and those offended. I have been with Dict8 a long time and to be honest yes I relied heavily on them while I was a student recently. The work has dried up, no word from them and yet they won't let me move to a specialty that although I haven't worked in for years wouldn't pose a problem to type.

As for the comments about tax, I don't think that is anyone else's business. As far as I am aware, it is classed as self-employment so a tax return should be completed regardless but that's up to the individual, it's not my place to tell anyone whether they should or shouldn't.

@Whitestar55 BTW Yeah 80s music love it.

danblack87 · 25/01/2023 00:30

@Frazzledbynature @Whitestar55 I am a rock chic myself (Ballerina rock chic)!!!!

Whitestar55 · 25/01/2023 08:59

I like 70s and 80s rock, but hated 80s fashion, the worst ever, big hair and big shoulder pads and those awful long skirts with the flaps 😂
