Would you go off with this?

Firstly, I've had 3 days off ill in the last 9 years - I'm pretty lucky to be fairly healthy and never needed to take a lot of time.

My work is massively understaffed at the min (like everywhere else!) and my team is carrying a lot of vacancies. There's also talk of a restructure coming after Xmas - redundancies not yet confirmed but it looks likely.

I think I've been stressed. Losing weight, hair falling out, stomach issues and sleeping 10+ hours a night and still being exhausted. I've removed caffeine entirely, started taking vitamins but nothing is making a difference.

I've caught something over the back end of the week and I don't feel great. Headaches, sore throat and tired - usually, I'd just get on with it but on top of my other symptoms, I'm barely getting through the day.

I know if I do take time off, it will have a knock on effect on my team and I know that in normal circumstances, these symptoms wouldn't be severe enough for me to take time away.

WWYD?

I would go to the GP anyway for your symptoms! Hope you feel better soon.

You don’t really sound well enough to be at work, so yes, I’d go off sick.

FLOWER1982 · 06/11/2022 21:46

Go sick.
I had this last week. Never go sick but felt so rough with a migraine on top. Don’t feel guilty! The world will still keep turning.

You sound unwell and very stressed. I think you need to listen to your body and recognise that work is not more important than your health.

You are not responsible for your team, you are responsible for a) your own health and b) your own work when well. That is all.

CambsAlways · 06/11/2022 21:47

Listen to your body!

It’s worth seeing your doctor for a thyroid and vitamin B check

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 06/11/2022 21:56

Have you been tested for diabetes or anything else at all?

Ontheedge2 · 06/11/2022 22:09

Thanks all!

I had a blood test about 9 months ago and all normal apparently.

I've tried doing more exercise, vitamin B is one of the ones I'm taking and I'm really strict on sleep routine. None of it seems to be making a difference and I'm beginning to get quite upset by it to be honest. I'm finding myself snapping at Little things and getting irrationally teary for the most ridiculous things. I'm definitely not pregnant by the way! (That's the one all my friends suggest!)

I think I'm going to call in tomorrow and try and get a GP appt. I just don't want to be wasting anyones time.

Im also getting really nervous about ringing my manager too - I know she won't be pleased
