Have I made a terrible mistake?

I started in my role in March 2021, it was a good step up for me, a change in employer amd completly wfh (although officially my contract is office based).
I have really thrived in the role, found my place in the team and really have made good progress.
In September a senior role came up, it would be line management and a change in responsibilities. I wasn't going to bother applying, as the money isn't much more than I'm on, but after some encouragement from the team I did apply and got the promotion, it was only a maternity cover for 12 months, so thought I didn't have much to lose.
I started the role at the beginning of October, and it's been really stressful, huge workload, now managing 3 full time staff (2 of which haven't started so I'm still doing my old job). My manager has really changed in her expectations from me, like working late, piling on the pressure and workload, it's becoming really overwhelming... My boss is 50, has no kids or partner and basically lives and breathes work... I have 2 DDs aged 14 and 12, usual stuff house, animals, elderly mother, husband etc. Also there are other seniors in the team with no line management responsibilities and this is grating me.
I'm starting to really regret taking the role, really feel trapped as my role has been internally backfillled and feel like I'd let everyone down if I give notice.
Am I being silly? Im really hoping things will calm down but this won't happen as we have some huge projects coming up.

Do you have one to one meetings with your manager that you could discuss your concerns?
