Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help me! I've got my heart set on training in play therapy and counselling one day for children who have experienced difficulties at home. Either that, or working as a family support worker/social work assistant.
I started a job in residential childcare full time about 4 months ago and prior to this I was picking up agency shifts. Anyway, now I'm in this role I'm not sure if it's right for me. You're expected to do a lot of paperwork so the kids have to entertain themselves a lot of the time. As I'm untrained at the moment I feel like there's little you can do to actually help the children, you've just got to manage the behaviour in the best way you can. Although it's a great stepping stone I don't know what to do, stick it out or do something else? And not only that, the shifts are so long and I'm exhausted a lot of the time.
If anyone has been through similar, would love to hear from you!
Thanks.
