If you are going through an UK SC clearance how do you prove unemployment. I have been unemployed for year ( including time spent waiting for checks to go through).

During my period of unemployment ive not claimed JSA as been supported by my other half financially. Can I put them down as a reference?

Not sure what an SC clearance is?

It isn’t usual to accept a spouse is as a reference though. If you need to vouch for gaps in employment, I would line up a personal reference from a non relative. But again, I have never heard of “SC” so please ignore me if it is something specific and not generally employment checking.

No you just leave it blank or say you were studying/career break checks will prove you’ve not been earning snd just put your previous employer as reference

I think the technical term you can use if you don't get a paid salary or benefits is 'economically inactive'. There is usually a space on vetting forms for explanation of any areas you can't answer or can't provide the required evidence so use that to put a brief explanation as you have here.

The key to all the government vetting processes is to be honest and transparent so they don't 'find' things you haven't told them about.

I haven’t had SC but I have had FCA clearance. For a period of unemployed between Uni and my first job an Accountant who was a family friend but unrelated to me provided a statement about this and my character in general. I think any professional person might do

Bank statements showing no salary income.

In most situations they will ask for bank statements, a character reference from someone in good standing and your hmrc tax account history
