Travel Advisor

Just asking if there’s any Travel Advisors out there that work in a well known High Street travel retail shop?
Ive always wanted to work in travel and have applied for a couple of the above vacancies.
I have since found out that it’s really stressful, always trying to achieve unachievable targets. Never leave on time, always working weekends, no work life balance.
Anyone on here doing or has done the job, is it as bad as described?
Any info / advise gratefully received!

I'm sorry I went to work for Thomas Cooks when the stores were going from red to blue signage in around 2005, after a good 4 years spent in hospitality, I could approach people easily but couldn't do the whole speak to sell and navigate systems back in the day. I also had no idea/passion on foreign holidays at the time. (I honestly have no idea what tempted me to want to work in a travel agent and I lasted a year under misery)

However, to survive in T Cooks for your £10,500 basic back in 2005 you had to be a good seller and sell thousands of pounds in holidays to get above store D proformer which was the worst.

I do agree with Thomy Cooks though that to do a good job you are learning a role for 2 years. No other employer has come near in their training understanding.

@Preparedforjobnottolast I love your username, I should adopt something similar!
Thanks for your reply, I guessed it would be hard sell, I’m ok with learning new systems, have traveled a lot, lots of geographical knowledge. The only thing I would struggle with is selling and up selling holidays and products I know the customer can’t afford, or knowing that they get it much cheaper elsewhere.
