Kit days NHS

Not sure if this is the best topic to post this!

Currently 9 months into NHS maternity leave so statutory mat pay is ending. I was planning on working Kit days to make up some of the short fall however HR have said I wouldn't be paid for these days until I return from leave.

Has anyone been in this position? As far as I understood you should be paid in the cycle the kit day falls into?

Thanks :)

When I took KIT days with my first baby, I was paid that month or the following month, depending on how late in the month the KIT day was. That was NHS.

KIT days should be paid as part of the normal payroll cycle. If they are claiming they can’t do this because you are still on mat leave then they may have a payroll system that is not legally compliant. This is a basic payroll function that is carried out routinely.

I suggest emailing HR and referring to the conversation about how KIT days are paid. Then ask why the payroll system is not capable of paying KIT days as part of the normal payroll cycle.

Note: If you are paid on the 29th of the month there will be a cut off date for payment that month but KIT days should be paid the following month.

If you are in a TU, ask them about this.

Thank you for the advice, that's what I thought. I'll make some enquiries!
