Hi

I’m thinking of Applying for an 8a post - would anyone mind sharing full time (37.5hours) take home pay - no over time, with pension deductions please? All the recent changes have confused me & I’m not sure if I’m better off on lower band. Thanks!

Between 3000 to 3300 after text I think

givinglessfucksdaily · 19/10/2022 17:37

I'm an 8a , I do pay a little extra to my pension and take home £3400

MidnightMeltdown · 19/10/2022 17:44

£2,733 for bottom of the band.

After tax and pension

PuzzlingRecluse · 19/10/2022 17:45

Thank you all so much :-) it’s full time bottom of band I’m looking at, currently top of band 7

There's a pay calculator here:

Pension is 9% and you can put the numbers into a salary calculator - it allows you to put in student loan, if you live in Scotland etc

Apologies OP , I have a couple of FSHR expanded role payments , without them it would be £3042

Here you go. I used this website when I moved to 8c and it was pretty accurate...quite eye watering too when it came to the pension!

Pension rate is 10% now. Rising to 11.6% for earnings over £29,246.

4 instead of a 2 that should have been!

Butterfly44 · 19/10/2022 18:27

@nothingmuchaboutjerry great calculator- which website is that from?

nothingmuchaboutjerry · 19/10/2022 18:29

@Butterfly44 It is www.nhspay.co.uk/NHS-Band-8A-Pay.php

But I think the pension calculations are not right as another poster pointed out that for bands 8a and 5 the rates have changed.

Thank you gives me a good ball park figure :-)

I think Band 8a take-home pay varies quite a bit depending on pension, student loan, and hours, but it usually lands somewhere around £3.3k–£3.8k/month after deductions.
You can get a more accurate breakdown here if anyone needs it:

Hope that helps 👍
