Has anyone ever used a mentor/coach?

So quite a few of my friends are setting up coaching businesses, both to mentor people with running a business, as well as help with mental health and even menopause etc.
it's not something I'd really consider hiring as a service, and I don't know anyone who would really use someone like that either, but it seems to be a popular thing!
I wondered if anyone had ever used one - what the benefits were, why you wanted one in the first place etc? Just curious!

I'm a trainee mentor through my work (big global org). I help others navigate a situation usually focused on career development eg deciding where to take their career, what to do next.

Mentoring tends to be a listening role whereas coaching is more directive in telling people what to do.

Personally, I potentially would consider using one if I felt stuck in my career and wanted to play next steps. But, I tend to know various techniques to get the answers myself. Squiggly Careers do good books to help too.

I am one!
Its too easy to set up as a Business coach, you need no qualifications or anything.
I have started several Businesses myself and helped take a couple to exit. I have been working in a variety of Companies for 25 years, so it really grinds my gears when people buy a franchise or do a brief internet course and claim to be a Business coach or Mentor
