Hi everyone,

Wondering whether anyone knows the answer to this one.

I already know im not eligible for statutory maternity pay, but meet the thresholds for maternity allowance.

Could I apply for the maternity allowance straight away? Or do I still have to apply for statutory maternity allowance first?

Thank you

If you are employed; I think you need the rejection letter from your employer, so you have to apply for SMP first.

If you are currently employed you need your employer to give you a SMP1 form for you to give to DWP.

I had to apply for the statutory maternity and then when my employer declined I applied for the allowance. Didn't take long.
