Two job offers

Hi everyone

Could you help me decide what to do here?

I've been stuck in a dead end job for 3 years. I would have left it a lot sooner had I not had a baby in 2021.

I got back to work early this year. Nothings changed and I decided to leave.

Anyway I've got two offers. One is similar to what I'm doing now but more senior in another organisation. It's not very exciting and It won't move my career on much. It won't much more money. But it's for a public sector organisation with a great pension contribution, great leave and I can work flexibly. I'd be working full time but working compressed hours. I do this at the moment and I basically do two really long days at home and it's ok. I don't work Fridays. But this job is easy. I can do it in my sleep so it's easy to churn the work out. I have to do full time as it's not that well paid and I need a full time salary.

The second offer is a bit more exciting. It's a change of focus. Working in the private sector focused on project management. It's a lot more money on paper but once you take away the pension and holidays it's not that much more. I'd be working four days a week and would make enough money to live on a part time salary rather than compressed hours. It's really exciting and could really further my career.

However, I'm scared of leaving the easy life! As a parent the public sector role suits but in terms of my personal development it won't.

This is not a diss at public sector jobs as there are lots of really great ones. But my field is pretty basic and it's glacially slow to move up and I can't see a future for me this arena.

But at the same time I'm really scared of taking on a new challenge. I've not engaged my brain since I had kids. I want to get back on track but I'm also terrified of being stressed. I have real imposter syndrome too and part of me believes I'm not good enough for this new job.

Help! What would you do?
