Pros and Cons of both. I am employed at the moment, but looking at venturing on my own pathway self employed. I do have a family children, husband works full time etc.
i keep thinking about the security I have employed but really thinking I want to work for myself? Is there more cons of self employment do you think?

I work self employed alongside employment with a charity and the NHS …sadly, atm, I can’t rely on enough income from my self employed venture. I think it could be more lucrative if I invested more money in promoting myself, but I’m a little reluctant to do that …

Go for it! Nothing ventured, nothing gained…

Build up your client base for your business whilst employed and when you’ve got enough quit the job. Always pay vol class 2s even if you don’t earn enough because it gives you some financial security for ill health and maternity. I’ve been self employed since kids were wee and I don’t think I could work for anyone else now. I love the freedom I have. Yes filling in your tax return is a pain in the arse but it’s a once a year thing, yes if you need to take stat sick or maternity allowance it will be a fight with the incompetence of hmrc and the dwp (not just me saying this, thousands in forums complaining) but more pros than cons of being self employed for me.
