Gah joined a new company this year and man it was in a bad shape. Someone had put in a grievance with the head boss and a colleague and it really divided the team. The person who put the grievance in eventually left. We now have two other people who were close to this colleague saying they cannot cope with work due to mental health issues and with stuff going on in their personal life - one is in my team and really good at their job usually. They have left a trail of destruction in their wake and I don’t know what to make of it all. I am not sure I am enjoying the role! Of course I need the job but have a lot of non compete clauses in my contract and with being here within probation period I’m not sure how new employers would view this. Things had been improving but now I’m left with very annoyed clients threatening to take their business away and making us look really bad.
I am very sympathetic to mental health issues but I have others in my team sowing seeds of doubt to me over this due to what’s gone on in the department in the past year and they feel the staff members are malingering. I do have support from HR and while I was due to receive a sick note last week, I still haven’t received this from my employee. My employee was very upset when their colleague left.
i know as a seasoned team lead I should be able to work through the process but I truly haven’t been in this situation before. Also I always try to look for the best in people but the leadership team are v sceptical. Anyone had similar experiences? It usually takes a number of years before politics get me looking for other jobs but am thinking of brushing up the old CV.
