Interview outcome - when would you chase?

So I had an interview at the beginning of last week and I was told that I would hear of the outcome by the start of this week. I haven’t heard anything yet so don’t have high hopes. But when would you reach out to ask if there are any updates?/ would you?

Possibly end of this week? You won't necessarily be told anything though.

Hmm I dont think I’d reach out, I doubt they’d have forgotten you! It might be that they are considering it or have sent an offer to another candidate and waiting for their response before contacting you (you could be second in line for instance). Did you send an email after the interview to say thanks for their time?

@Blueberrywitch I didn’t send an email but I did say this after the interview. Now im
worried! It was a competency based interview so I doubt that would make a difference to the outcome anyway but I am feeling a bit deflated as I find it hard to move on until I know

I've had 3 interviews recently that afterwards I felt weren't a good fit, so didn't invest time in a follow up email. And have heard zero back, despite them all saying they would and giving time frames.

I've never had this when interviewing before and I know we are in a candidates market right now but these are senior roles and regardless, I find it down right rude when you've invested time and prep for the interview. It reinforced my gut feel that they weren't the right fit anyway, but equally it could be down to lack of a follow up email by me.

If you genuinely want the job, ALWAYS follow up yourself shortly after the interview. Not only good practice, you'll stand out from other candidates and if you also confirm the next steps you were told eg "I look forward to hearing from you next week once the first round of interviews is complete" it makes a quick follow up email a lot easier once that time has passed.

I wouldn't follow up. If you haven't been offered the job a follow up email to remind them who you are won't swing it.

Don’t reach out yet. You will hear either way, so I personally don’t chase interview outcomes. I had a friend once who put some much pressure on as she didn’t hear for a while so told her they were debating between 2 candidates, one being her and she literally chased every few days. She didn’t get the role, not sure if her chasing had any gift know do with it but it wasn’t good.

I’d say wait until Friday if you have to chase

If they told you beginning if this week, I’d chase either Thurs end of day, or Friday morning. I don’t think a polite nudge harms anything, and you don’t want to spend another weekend wondering if they have or haven’t made a decision.
