Hi all,
Just to say that I have googled the government pages but still need advise, should also say that I am not british so not all sure how it works. What I can gather is that yes you can work as a 16 yo bla bla but does it happen?

Question is, can you get an extra/part time job as a 15/16 yo? I worked as a 15 and 16 yo in various roles on weekends, McDonalds/estate agent/warehouse work etc and my son who will be 16 in December really would like a part time job but my husband says that it's just not happening anymore, kids that ages can't get part time/extra jobs?

Is that true. I know he can obviously try babysitting/dog walking/car washing/tutoring but he's already tried that on local sites and nothing has come out of it.

You can work but are much more restricted in terms of hours and type of work. McDonalds e.g. would be fine but he would be very unlikely to get work in a pub, unless it was as waiting staff, as hardly any (none?) employ “bottle snatchers” these days. He could get supermarket work, but would need to be supervised when selling age-restricted products.

Thank you so much, would you say it's dependent on regions? We are in London and it doesn't seem that anyone could get any work from my 'limited' research ;-)

We're in the South East and DS found a job at the local chippy days after his 16th birthday. He's had a paper round since he was 13 so had a good reference. He took copies of his CV and just went round all the local shops and eateries.

Most of his mates work in similar places... coffee shops, garden centre cafes, KFC...

I would’ve thought London might be easier if anything, as there’s more places. Are there any cafes near you; independent/Starbucks/Costa?
