Reference checking BPSS standard

Hi,

I have applied for a role with the Civil Service and have provisionally been offered a job. I understand they carry out Baseline Personnel Security Standard checks as part of the provisional checks for the past three years.

In terms of my employment history, I had a period of unemployment from March 2020 to January 2021 in where I resigned from post due to family personal issues and then Covid hit making it really hard to secure a role. I was claiming JSA between that time and working with a work coach to find a role. I started a role in January 2021 and then was offered an alternative role in October 2021 which I accepted upon joining the organisation in October there wasn't a role as such and the hiring manager advised they weren't prepared for me to start, and I resigned and have been unemployed since October last year and living on savings.

I was offered a provisional offer for the civil service, but I am really worried about these two gaps in my CV I don't want to appear as a job hopper they never asked for my employment history at the application stage only for employment history at this stage. I have filled it out and stated Unemployed seeking work on the dates for gaps.

Im worried I may get rejected though one for the gap and one for appearing as a hopper through the baseline personal security standard. I have two-character references in which they ask for and I've put down my employer who I was last employed for.

I really want this job it's been a tricky past two years with my mum suffering from ill health and I'm so anxious can anyone advise me.

It will be fine, no one will be judging your cv in the way you think.

The most they would be concerned about is what you were doing in the gaps, and you've put truthfully what you were doing.

BPSS is the most basic level of checks, it's basically a "you are who you say you are" check. Honestly don't worry about it.

They’re not checking if you’re a job hopper. They’re checking your honesty, integrity etc. I can’t see an issue with anything you have mentioned so long as you are honest about it. Please try not to worry!
