Notice period

My current employer have agreed to pay a cost of living bonus to staff in next months pay. The bonus is not payable to those who are working their notice.

Problem is, I may need to hand in my notice if I am successful at an interview I have coming up. My current notice period is 4 weeks.

I am thinking of saying my notice period is 8 weeks at the interview then keeping quite in my current role until after the bonus is paid.

What are your thoughts?

Do it - well - get the bonus but don't lie - say you are available from xxx date rather than my notice period is yyyy.
You could also say you want time off between two roles. It's fine to stall. Is there a chance the new employer will pay the bonus you'd lose to get you sooner?

Get the interview & job offer, then negotiate about the start date: if they want you they won’t pull an offer over 4 weeks

It is normal to hang in there to get your bonus : just explain that
