Interviews being cancelled since Mini Budget

Just need some reassurance.

I have been made redundant and managed to get interviews booked in for today, tomorrow, Thursday and Friday and another in the pipeline. All for different companies but similar roles.

Today's and Thursdays have now been cancelled due to the recession and uncertainty. Since the Mini Budget basically.

Is anyone else finding this? I feel so low. I felt like I had options and now I feel like the rug is being pulled.

The two that were cancelled are head office retail ones (think buying / trends / marketing).

I don't know what I'm looking for - just a handhold & reassurance.

Job hunting is horrible at the moment!!

Thank you :)

I’m so sorry @Itdoesntrain . I’ve recently been through a round of redundancy - I survived it, but it was awful (I was on mat leave). Keep applying and looking - maybe also think about jobs in other sectors that you have transferable skills for - there might be some surprising opportunities. Sending you good wishes.

I wouldn't let it get to you, there are so many jobs out there, just because a few companies had to close some positions doesn't mean others aren't still looking. What job are you after and where in the country?

Lochjeda · 27/09/2022 19:42

My jobs temporary. I was told I'd likely be kept on when I took it. I have now been told I won't be and the local authority where I work only has one job advertised internally. No ones ever seen it so low. They are cutting our social work team from ten to three. Things are going to get really bad.

Thank you everyone so much, I'm in the South West and the roles are sort of Buying / Marketing related but I'm looking at anything marketing related.

@Lochjeda I was looking at council roles last week to look at a career move and there were so many options. Today, barely anything. They've been taken down since the Mini Budget.

It's going to be awful, isn't it!

Looking at roles on Indeed and LinkedIn, most roles are hybrid now which I cannot do from so far away. There isn't a lot of choice. So I'll just have to keep happy and busy somehow.

If You have marketing qualifications / experience, and you're happy to relocate, you will for sure find a job. There is just so much out there!

I'd love to but to enable selling our house and buying another elsewhere. I'll need to have a salary for the mortgage

Which I don't have.

If I had a wish, I'd wish that I get offered a WFH job with the promise that as soon as we move, I'd go into the office.

My colleague did that, it was great for her! She had 4 months WFH and once her house purchase completed, she moved down and started working in the office. But I can't seem to find any company that flexible and nice.

Companies all around seem to be closing down. I've seen 3 office clear out posts "XX is closing down. All office equipment must go"

😔 what a mess!!

Well, recession or not work will still need to be done in many industries so don't lose hope.

I am also hoping that we will get a general election early and that this nightmare will start to improve soon.

You might need to widen your search as well to jobs you have transferrable skills for.

I am jobs searching again and trying to stay positive too.
