Negotiating salary

I have applied for a job that was advertised with a salary of £24500. If I was offered it I would want to try to get this higher. What would you go in with as your expected salary?

I have nearly always negotiated salary, but I have never applied for a job with a specific salary mentioned. I would assume this was fixed.

It depends on why you think you are worth the extra? Depends on the company if it's a council/civil service there is often little room for negotiation. They have advertised it at the salary and probably have an authority to recruit signed off to advertise. Were you aware of the salary when you applied?
