Return to work after maternity

Hi,
im hoping there might be someone on here who can offer some sage advice re returning to work after maternity leave.

Basically, I have worked for the same employer for a considerable length of time. I took maternity leave for the first time a few years ago and was allowed to return to my old job, but on a part time basis.

All has worked well.

i am currently on maternity leave with my second child. A recent discussion with my boss has suggested that, due to some internal changes, they need a full time person to do the role. My maternity cover is full time.

Does anybody know what my rights would be if I return to work after 26 weeks ordinary maternity leave? Would they have to offer me my old job on the same terms or are they entitled to say that the role is now full time and possibly make me redundant if I can’t do that?

thanks I’m advance for any wisdom

If you return after 26 weeks, they must give you your old job back on the same terms. Wanting someone to do the role full time is not a redundancy situation.

Before 26 weeks you are entitled to your old job.

After 26 week you are entitled to a similar on not worse terms and conditions.

They can't force you to return full time if you've previously been part time.
