Interview predicament

Sprogonthetyne · 15/09/2022 11:29

I've managed to get interviews for two jobs and both interviews are tomorrow.

Job 1, interview in the morning, is the one that I really want, the hours would be perfect and I think I will like the job more.

Job 2, interviews in the afternoon, I could do but would be more stressful and the hours would be doable but not as much of a good fit.

The predicament is that job 2 is in a school, and I've been told they often tell you the outcome at the end of the interview, and expected you to commit straight away. This would probably be before I know if I've got job 1.

Is it OK to explain this to job 1, and ask for an early indication? (not nessercerily proper job offer, just if I'm in a strong position)

If job 2 give me an offer, is it OK to ask them to wait?

If no to the above, should I just accept any job I'm offered, as it's better then no job?

If I accept job 2, then find out I could have had job 1 I'll be kicking myself, but if I turn down job 2, then don't get job 1 I'll also be gutted.

I would say that you need a day to discuss with your family

I had a school interview yesterday, at the end they asked if I was offered it would I accept. I said subject to a family chat. Just waiting to hear back today.

That would be a good way to play for time, if job 1's time scales aren't to long. As it's a Friday then a bank holiday, it would probably give me to Tuesday. I have a feeling the school will be in a hurry, as the post was meant to start at the beginning of term, then I'm guessing the first candidate fell through, so they contacted me.

And good luck with your job, I hope you hear back soon

You could also use the offer for Job 2 as leverage for Job 1 if they're being slow to let you know.

Good luck! Hope you get the job you want 😄

@Sprogonthetyne I've got a thread, I f*cked up my opportunity. Got offered it, turned it down due to salary panic, changed my mind within a literal minute and it was offered out

newjobwhodisperhaps · 15/09/2022 12:53

Good luck with yours x

Oh no, so sorry it didn't work out.

Just tried on interview outfit and discovered I've been eating to many pie's, so off to the shop. Thank god I didn't find out tomorrow morning.

We ask everyone if they’d take job if offered it. No one who says no is ever offered it. Very different question to actual offer.

It's unreasonable to not allow you time to think, but you can play them at their own game. Say yes and turn it down later if you get a better offer. It's exactly the same tactics in reverse, but they started it so it's not unreasonable

Had the first interview, and it seemed to go well. They said they will be able to offer out position by this afternoon, and would try to get in touch before the other interview.

Congratulations

Thank you.

I've been out of work for the last 4 years, while we learned to manage DS's autism. I was terrified the long break and limited hours I'm able to work would have made it impossible, so it's such a relief to have found something.
