Does anyone else hate LinkedIn?

Buzzybeeinmybrain · 13/09/2022 10:57

Now that it's like Facebook. My feed is littered with

  • selfies and "mental health" blog posts
  • golf selfies
  • baby scan photos
  • work nights out

Is there a new LinkedIn? Somewhere more professional?

Yep and now Queen related stuff. Keep to the POINT!
Its also lots of look at my new job.

Buzzybeeinmybrain · 13/09/2022 11:28

It could be due to my rural location but a lot of mine are Managing Directors of small mediocre businesses going out for breakfasts, being self nominated and shortlisted at award nights that nobody has ever heard of and golf.

Or "just did my fastest 5km lap ever. Now ready 💪 for a productive afternoon"

The more "feminine" posts are trending with "proud to have taken part in the Girls in XX webinar. Thank you to everyone who supported me on my journey so far" = always a mushy mushy sloppy tone.

It's all very small worldy and simple. I can't even describe it!

It's embarrassing

Yes, I’ve found colleagues on there with a load of bollocks on their profile, it’s a way to glitter a turd if you want to look good and make stuff up that’s for sure.

Ohpaella · 13/09/2022 15:29

And yeah loads of the - just done 5k on my break now off to run back to work with dog/kid on back.

TollgateDebs · 13/09/2022 15:35

Linkedin can be useful, but it does have a load of crap on it too! Interesting that I follow someone who mentioned he'd got more reactions to a post about his dog than his work! I commented he would have done better if he'd had a cat! I like the messaging, occasional gem of wisdom and report link but a great deal is facebook really.

LaQuern · 13/09/2022 15:36

I shut my account down when I saw some of my ex colleagues er......exaggerated interpretation of what they did when we worked together.

Pile of shite it is.

TheLeadbetterLife · 13/09/2022 15:38

It's absolutely pointless these days. Like all social networking sites, they have their day and then they fizzle out and fill up with shite.

Nothing beats real life networking in my experience, anyway.

Buzzybeeinmybrain · 13/09/2022 15:42

These replies have made me laugh! Glad it isn't just me.

I noticed an ex colleague had given himself a new title and wrote that he was qualified. He bloody isn't! 🤣 liar

I'm looking for a new job, and once I have one - I'm fully deleting LinkedIn.

OP posts:
LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 14/09/2022 19:05

Hate it! So much self promotion and it’s always the absolute bellends who big themselves up the most 🤣

User110922 · 14/09/2022 22:59

I don't use it as it's just turning into Facebook. Selfies instead of professional profile pictures. Colleagues glamourising their jobs etc etc. Not for me.

asblindasabat · 14/09/2022 23:20

Oh my goodness I totally agree OP. I use LinkedIn but I’m more a ‘lurker’ than an actual active user.

Just yesterday one person who I know from a previous job that I follow on LinkedIn posted she had got a new job and put selfies off herself in her office on the post. Just silly.

So true about the awards 🤣🤣🤣

Geogaddi · 21/09/2022 19:34

hahaha i had similar@LaQuern , the intern who did nothing for 6 months claiming they were an assistant and one particulary lazy-ass person claiming they'd project managed something they had nothing to do with. Oh and the ex CEO who was an unemployed SAHD claiming to be director of a company. So much bullshit it gave me stomach cramp..

Go to Twitter and look up the account called The State of LinkedIn. It's all about taking the piss out of the LinkedIn posts you've described. Enjoy!

mydogsteppedonabee · 16/10/2022 00:17

I work in HR / sourcing / recruitment and I think it's an absolute load of shite!
The tone of the posts are just 🤢
Someone needs to invent a new LinkedIn for professionals, as suggested by PP

applesandpearsagain · 18/10/2022 22:10

I don't hate it but it has become like Facebook.

I like looking at peoples's job/education backgrounds on LinkedIn.

I went on there as someone told me it was a good way to get jobs. I've only ever been approached by one employer with a job I could do/get to though.

svx · 21/04/2024 01:23

Shameless plug here but I have spent several years working on an alternative to LinkedIn which is soon to launch.
It is designed around specific knowledge domains in the hope of enculturing knowledge and giving short thrift to banal leadership clichés that have come to plague LinkedIn.
I am committed to fostering an engaging and content-rich environment and hope to deliver a cleaner, intuitive design (without dark patterns).
Please support us if you can on Kickstarter and feel free to dm me if you have questions !
