Holiday allowance

I've recently gone part time. I work Tuesday Wednesday Thursday. I've never been part time before.

Full time employees get 25 days annual leave plus the bank holidays.

What should my annual leave be?

Assuming you’re working the full day on the days you work, you get 3/5 of a full timer’s entitlement so I make it 15 days plus 4.8 bank holiday days (which they may round up to 5).

I have recently gone back to work three days a week. At my place it is explained as follows. The full time allowance is 25 days plus 8 (most years!) bank holidays. Therefore my leave is 3/5 of 33 = 19.8 days.

But like the full time staff, if my working day falls on a bank holiday, then I have to use part of my leave to cover it. So next year (back to the usual 8 BHs) of my 19.8 days I will need to use only 1 day to cover a bank holiday (Good Friday) as all other bank holidays are on a Monday or Tuesday when I don’t work. So I will have 18.8 days plus 1 BH on Good Friday.

You've chosen the right days to work part time, you should end up with more time off on days you want because it's not being used to cover Monday bank holidays.

I was also 3/5 (0.6) post but it was worked out in hours, along with 3/5 of the bank holidays.

I definitely picked the right days. It was mostly to avoid paying for 2x kids nursery fees on bank holidays. And we mostly do long weekend holidays, stead of 7 days in a row. So it meant we paid for a lot of Monday/Fridays when we were on holiday.

This extra bank holiday just made me question whether my allowance was correct.
