The B******* now want to postpone my redundancy

I was a bit nervous but now really looking forward to being made redundant on 29th Feb. Now the sods want to postpone my redundancy date IF this project gets signed off.
Not happy.
BTW have only been told verbally the actual redundancy date - I have a meeting with HR tomorrow and should get the official date then.
But, I was going to give my childcarers notice over the weekend (well write letter/send email) as I need to give them 1 months notice.

So I told them, if they want me not to give notice to the childcarers this weekend, they HAVE to pay for the extra childminding costs.

I was looking forward to to finishing work here. I am setting up a meeting next week for the first step in my new career plan.

Sorry, maybe I'm missing something. You need to give your childminder 1 month's notice. You haven't yet been given official notice of your redundancy. Presumably as long as you get 1 month's notice of what your redundancy date is, there's no issue?

You'll still be paid while you are at work so where are the 'extra childminding costs' coming in? Are you expecting them to give you extra money just because you are not being made redundant on the date you would prefer? When you 'told' them they 'have' to pay you this money what on earth did they say?!

Yes, I am supposed to hear officially tomorrow, so will have one months notice of when I will be made redundant.

My boss has just told me that they MAY want to change it. So doesn't want me to give notice to the 'wrap-round' care at school. So that IF this project is signed off, they can ask me to stay for longer.

My point is, if I don't give notice and the project is cancelled/postponed and I am still made redundant on 29th Feb I will be paying for childcare I don't need.

Which is why I have asked for them to agree to pay for the childcare. Boss seemed OK with the idea

They have to give you the correct notice even if that means changing their mind. If they give you notice that it will be (say) 31st March and then change their mind in a few weeks they can't then decide it's 29th Feb, they won't have given you enough notice.

Make sure you get what you are entitled to. Which isn't childcare costs, it's the correct notice in the first place. Here. If your boss thinks he can get away with giving you less notice than he is required to by paying you some money towards childcare he is not fulfilling his requirements.

Ah, but you are also partly right. So it is a bit of a grey area.

When I am made redundant, it will either be 12 weeks pay in lieu of notice or 12 weeks gardening leave - when I am paid to sit at home and not work.
I am also entitled to at least 30 days Consultancy before I am made redundant, this I have to work except they have to give me time off for job interviews etc.

What I am saying if they want to change the consultancy from 30 days to 44 days (so I work another 2 weeks). I need to have childcare. So I am saying that if they will pay for those two weeks childcare. I will not give notice to my childcarers for another 2 weeks and then they can postpone my actual leaving date IF they need to.

We have all had redundancy hanging over our heads for three years, so we have been doing research on our rights.

BUT I want to finish, I am looking forward to it, I have a whole new career to plan, children to play with, PTA to join, books to read, television to watch. I am counting down the days, I want OUT

I am sure you have done lots of research into your rights. I am still not quite sure which bit of your redundancy rights enables your employer to bring forward the date of your redundancy at less than the required notice, but it sounds as though you have found something that allows them to do this.

Don't worry about further explanation, as long as you are happy with the situation.
