Any copywriters here?

I’m interested in becoming a copywriter.

I have had 8 years in the education sector, strong 2:1 social sciences undergrad from a top uni, a PGCE and am currently doing social science masters for fun. I have been doing some writing/SEO for a family business and a friend in recruitment commented that it would be quite a good fit for me. I was looking to career change anyway!

I’m taking at least 2-3 years out to be a SAHM and am in the fortunate position to have a fully flexible DH and family for childcare- so I am able to commit to further study in this time.

I’m very overwhelmed with the amount of copywriter courses and struggling to find what is ‘best’.

any advice or pointers appreciated!

Hi, my husband is a copywriter. He has an IT and finance background but due to health problems and being unable to work in an office setting, he eventually stumbled upon copywriting as a career. There are different types of copywriting as I'm sure you know. He is in direct response marketing which truth be told is fairly spammy but well paid.

If you'd like to know more I'm happy to help or put you in touch with my husband. I wish you all the best for your career!

I would love to know more! Thank you for replying!

  1. how did he qualify?
  2. how did he start out?
  3. does he have his own business or is he an employee?

His uni degree is unrelated (information systems engineering) and previous work experience in finance also not related. Essentially what he did was he took some paid copywriting courses and a paid tutor and eventually joined Copy Accelerator which is a big group of US based direct response copywriters headed by someone called Stefan Georgi to 'get in the circle'.

Overall the start was very expensive but we both agreed that it would be the quickest way to get into it. He can charge 10k and more for a sales letter now.

He is a freelancer but for over a year niow he works for an agency that manages ads for different health supplements. He receives a basic salary plus boni. Still on a freelance basis.

It's hard work but well paid. Very flexible.

I hope this helped, please ask more if you'd like to know more details.

Thank you! What paid courses did he do?

He bought and did Copyhour and Stefan Georgi's RMBC Applied. The biggest turning point was him joining Stefans copy accelerator which is 1500 dollars for the light version.

Being part of the copy accelerator community and the jobs and referrals that it can bring are really valuable.
