I'm new here. Created the account just so I could get some answers to my question. Tried to Google it but couldn't find anything useful. Sorry, if the question will sound silly🤦♀️
I am 3 months into my Mat Leave, not planning to go back to my current job. I took a full year (9 months getting SMP + 3 months unpaid). I am now thinking to go back to work earlier than planned, right after my SMP stops.
I hope my question will make sense. Once I tell my current employer that I'm not coming back (which would be around 8-9 months into my Mat leave), can I look for a new job and start working? Or I will have to stay at home for a full year as per my official letter to my employer? Maybe I should contact my boss now and let him know straight away?
I'm sorry for a horrible explanation, I really hope it all makes sense and someone can help me out.
